So, I was reading a post on the blog I'm following called The Atheist Camel. This post spoke about how some Christians believe that Anne Frank's fate was to die and go to hell because she did not believe in Jesus. The Christian doctrine says that: The only way to the Father is through the Son. This means that the only way to get into heaven is to believe in Jesus. So, because she was born into a Jewish family, she was condemned to hell from birth. Some argue that if she wanted to get into heaven, she should have gone against the religion her parents, grandparents and so on followed and become a Christian. When I read that, I could not believe the audacity. I was so shocked that I thought I should share this with all of you. If you want to read about it more in detail, visit his blog. You can just check out this post, or the blog itself. It's really interesting. Here's the link to the post for those of you who are interested. http://atheistcamel.blogspot.com/2009/10/anne-frank-had-it-coming-jesus-said-so.html

Talya,
ReplyDeleteThe blog you are reading is provocative to an extreme. It is simply fanatical and misleading to misrepresent any religion with one broad brush stroke. The great religious leaders of the past (and even the present)must have understood that their actions and words would be misunderstood and misinterpreted. It's probably why great spiritual leaders have always taught in parables - the power of the metaphor! So, it's tragic that people today insist on being literal and making a rich and ancient source of wisdom seem so heinous and small minded. Whatever we think of the world's great religious leaders, I wouldn't use either of those two adjectives to describe them. Your blogger is being less than objective.
Of course it is not everyone who thinks like this; far from it. Still, the ones who take the doctrines so literally that they say things like this definately should rethink some things. Of course, this is my opinion, and some may disagree, but to say that some people, the day they were born into a religion other than christianity, were destined to go to hell is absurd. If that's not closemindedness than i don't know what is.
